Growing Hair For Men Thick Hair

Searching best hairstyles for thick hair that are stylish, easy to manage, and trendy can be tricky, but with a bit of investigation and knowledge of what the benefits of thick hair are, a beautiful look can be just a snip, clip, or spray away.

Thick hair is rich and full of volume, but many women who enjoy voluminous thick hair have find that it isn't as easy to live with as fashion models and hairstyling product commercials may demonstrate. The first thing that you need to do to make your thinning hair look wonderful is to find the right stylist. Find a hairstylist who has other clients with thinning hair and is fluent in all of the best hairstyles and procedures to both guard thinning hair and make it look thicker than it really is. You can do this by asking for recommendation from friends who also have thin hair but always seem to look like they have just left the salon. Here are some hairstyles ideas for thick hair:

Putting long thick hair into an updo is elegant and simple to create. Another option is to tie a partial knot and let the ends of your hair flow down your back.Corn rows, curls & crimps are also great choices for thick hair. The classic prom or wedding hairstyle for thick hair is easily created by pulling all the hair smoothly and tightly into a ponytail that rests midway up the head from the nape of the neck.

Growing Hair Long

If you have damaged hair as a result of using straightening iron, dying, coloring, bleach or excessive sun exposure you need to read this

The key to not damage your hair is to keep your hair in its natural state as much as possible

Second to stop dry/ damaged hair you want to stop using the straightener because these heating devises damage the hair beyond repair, the best way to fix truly damaged hair is to let it grow out naturally! The damage per say cant actually be fixed but it can be grown out. There are oils that can stick the damaged hair strands together, but nothing will repair damaged hair as hair is dead!

Next you want to be sure to trim of the dead ends of your hair; you might also want to use a strengthening shampoo, one that is designed to prevent hair damage from heat damage.
next step is to use a natural Hot oil treatment such as Mira hair oil , it acts like a hair mask (you can get them here - its a strong herbal oil / conditioner that you leave in for like 10 minutes and it does magic t your damaged hair).

Anyone got any tips for growing hair really long?
I have been trying to grow my hair long for years but it grows really slowly! so does anyone have any tips that will make it grow longer or faster..?

    • ANSWER:
Healthy hair growth starts with good nutrition. Your hair needs certain nutrients to grow properly. This can be achieved by getting enough of the right fats, vitamins, and minerals from your diet, or from dietary supplements. There are also some other supplements that may also be able to help, like saw palmetto, Pygeum Africanum, MSM, and grape seed extract. You should talk to your doctor before you do, or take anything, and also do your own research (wikipedia, pubmed, etc.) as well. Check out the article link below for some useful information. Hope this helps...

Growing long hair from a short hairstyle?
I've always had short hair, and I got a haircut about two weeks ago. I'm going to grow hair now, however, because I listen to metal and I think long hair is awesome.

I was just wondering; my hair is now (because of the haircut) a bit short in the back and sides, yet the top is not as short. (So it's just a typical haircut, really) If I start growing long hair now, will it even out?

  6. QUESTION:
What to do with sideburns when growing hair long?
I'm trying to grow my hair down to just below my ears. It's still at that akward stage where it doesn't seem to grow down at all, it just seems to get thicker (is that just a waiting process?), but my sideburns are quite long. Do I want to shave those, cut them shorter or just leave them as they are for now?

    Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
I googled "men long hair styles" and in the photos where the sideburns were visible, they generally seemed to end at the top of the earlobe, and were neatly shaped.

  7. QUESTION:
What are some really good tips to growing hair long?
Im trying to grow my hair long and im having a bit of trouble. any tips?
    Thanks everybody :]

    • ANSWER:
Get your hair trimmed every 6 weeks if possible, believe me it will grow faster. If you hair is dry or damaged I would recomend going to Sally's and getting some cholesterol condition, they will know what your talking about. It will nourish the hair and help it grow, and it's only 3 dollars. I did that when I was growing out my hair. When you get the cholesterol, only use it once a week, or once every 2 weeks. You can leave it on for a while, but I would not recommend leaving it in for over 3 hours, because if you condition your hair too much it will be just as bad as not conditioning it enough. I hope that this helps.

  8. QUESTION:
What can i do to start growing healthy long hair?
I would lik to grow long, silky and healthy hair. I always keep my hair at slightly longer then shoulder length. When I started to let it grow longer, hair would start to fall. by the time i had them at my waist, my hair shape would be V-shaped, unhealthy and hair become lesser.

I would lik to grow healthy long hair lik any other gals, please let me noe what shd i do to start growing my hair healthy so that my hair would not start falling?

I love any methods, vitamins, hair pdts and any other formulas.
I did not dye my hair. wat does healthy diet means? I eat veg, white meat, red meat and fruits daily. Lesser meat and more veg and meat. I mean my hair is thinning whn my hair get longer.

    • ANSWER:
The longer your hair is, the ‘older’ the ends of it are. Everyday, wear and tear, such as sun, wind, blow drying, curling irons and other heat styling tools, even shampooing and brushing, all work together to gradually erode each hair. This eventually causes split ends that will, in turn, result in the hair breaking off. Don't believe in that myth of the 100 stokes a day. Just brush enough to distribute the oil from your scalp to the reswt of your hair.

Hair grows at a different rate for each person. The best way to keep your growing strong is to keep it healthy and eat a good healthy diet as well. Food plays a big part in your skin and hair growth. And don't believe the empty promises of shampoos and supplements for faster hair growth.

Here are some hair growing tips:

Eliminate or cut back on smoking, caffeine and carbonated sodas which weaken the body and block maximum hair growing potential.
Eat a healthy diet that includes plenty of good protein, vitamins and minerals, specially iron. Try fish, poulty without skin, lean beef, eggs, and dairy products.
Plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and beans.
Avoid foods that are high in sugar or fat.
Treat your hair like a piece of fine old lace. Treat it carefully avoiding any unnecessary brushing, combing or handling.
Avoid use of hot water, hot blow dryers or other hair care tools that may stress the hair.
Have a weekly scalp massage to provide stimulation to the hair follicles.
Do a series of ongoing hot oil treatments to protect the hair's shaft.
Have regular trims to eliminate split ends and allow the hair to look and feel healthier.
Get plenty of rest and sleep to allow your body to grow hair
      Avoid stress!
If any of these tips work for you consult a dematologist you might have a condition that it makes your hair stop growing or to fall.

Guy growing hair long for the first time?
Im a guy and I have always had a short buzzcut. However, I want to grow my hair out long to donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. Any advice and how long should I grow it?

    • ANSWER:
You will have to take care of it a lot.
Brush it, comb it, wash it.
You should grow it more than 14 inches.
Enjoy it too. Long hair on guys rocks.

  12. QUESTION:
Guy growing long hair for the first time?
I've always gone with buzz cuts because they were low-maintanance, but now I want to see how I look with long hair. My hair is already pretty long now (i've been growing it for about a year), but it won't stay out of my face. And loose hairs stick up at the top of my head.
Other than that, any advice for anyone who's never really had much hair before?

    • ANSWER:
If it's been growing for a year, then I'd guess it's about 6" or so. Long hair is always in your face--it's just part of the deal. That's why people pull it back so often into ponytails or other ways.

As for the frizz on top, there's a good chance that it's dry. Use conditioner whenever you wash your hair, and if it's still a problem, try getting an anti-frizz serum (You can find a basic one wherever, my favorite is actually the Super Skinny Serum that's sold in salons). Mousse and/or gel can also help, but they're a little harder to work with.

  13. QUESTION:
Guy growing long hair for the first time to donate?

    • ANSWER:
That is awesome that you are doing this. I would just make sure you wash, condition and air dry your hair to keep it as natural as possible. Contact Pantene Beautiful Lengths to get all the correct information you need.

  14. QUESTION:

I have about an inch from my shoulder length hair. Is there any good but not expensive shampoo or conditioner that's really good for growing hair?

    • ANSWER:

      Hope this Helps!!!! :D

  15. QUESTION:
How would I go about growing long hair?
I've always kept short hair, but the biggest reason for that is because my hair isn't ery straight I've always kinda wanted to try out long hair, though, and if I get into the military this year, I doubt I ever will grow my hair out.

I've always kept my hair short, so I have *no* idea how to take care of longer hair. First off, is there a way to make my hair straighter? I mean, so it doesn't turn into an afro or anything, where it grows downward. Also, do you trim the back of your neck still?

I'm a guy, btw, and I figure I would grow ear-length sideburns and a short goatee. But I wanna keep a good, clean appearance, as most guys with long hair tend to look like bums, lol. Any advice on *that*?

On one final note, just any sort of grooming tips in general. Again, short hair is easy as hell to take care of, so I need all the advice I can get, lol.

    • ANSWER:
      Keep it clean

      Trim it every 4-6 Weeks

      Take vitamins.

  18. QUESTION:
what is the best shampoo & conditioner for growing long hair?
I'm looking to grow my hair longer and healthier in a short amount of time.

    • ANSWER:
My favorite shampoo and conditioner for growing long hair is herbal essences "long term relationship". It smells really good and is good for growing hair really long without breakage.

  19. QUESTION:
How to grow long hair. I have ethnic hair, and I have never been sucessful growing my hair past my earlobe.?
My hair shreds and breaks really bad. Do you know of any products that might help me grow long hair or is someone people genetically prone to have short hair.

    • ANSWER:
What is your hair type? We are all blessed with healthy beautiful hair.

Many reasons why your hair snaps & shreds. Afro-Amer (didn't say you do, just guessing) hair is the worst hair type and is fragile.

Supplements, steroids, hereditary, hair dyes perming, straightening, medications with testosterone, certain antidepressants, menopause, anti-acne, and too much of everything. Add to that the 7,000 + toxics found in your home, plus pollution found outdoors. Your body is crying for help!

If you're Afro-Amer . . . there's a website just for your hair type. They have lots of tips & suggestions. Check them out.

The majority of hair problems here are from girls in their 30s, asking how to care for their damaged hair, what product to make their hair grow, why their hair falls out, and why their shampoo or conditioner don't work. Women between 60-80 have that same problem, but it took them years to get there. And those same 30 & under girls are giving advice here? Go figure!

Even the cheapest shampoo can do magic for your hair, so it must be what you're doing AFTER you wash it. Shampoos and vitamins might make your hair look and feel healthier, but they won’t put more hairs on your head.

Hair products can NOT REVERSE what is happening to your hair.

  20. QUESTION:
What are some good products for growing long hair?
I have shoulder length hair, and i keep wanting to grow it long, but it gets to a point where my split ends become quite noticeable and their is alot of hair breakage. Are their any good products to help prevent these?

    • ANSWER:
Using prenatal vitamins really help your hair grow long and strong, and they also do great things for your nails. Vitamin E as well.

Be sure to get your hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks. I know it's hard to get your hair cut when you're trying to grow it long, but I promise it helps it grow faster and healthier.

You should use a conditioner in the shower as well as a leave in conditioner to help with the split ends. If your hair is oily, be sure only to use the leave in on the ends, and not too much. Using a leave in conditioner on your ends to help with the splitting. A good conditioner to use in the shower for split ends is actually one by Loreal, I got mine at a beauty supply store, but I bet you can find it at wal-mart. It's called Nature's Therapy Mega Moisture and it comes in a jar. I use a little in the shower and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing it out. There are lots of different leave in conditioners, find one that works for you. Bed Head has one specifically for split ends, and the Neutrogina Triple Moisture one is very nice on your hair, and it smells wonderful

      Good luck!

  21. QUESTION:
Does anyone know any tips for growing hair out long and strong?
I'm 21 and I've never had hair longer than my shoulders. This is because every time it gets that long it starts to look unhealthy and straggly because of all of the split ends. I am an african american boy with a mini fro(afro hair), what do i do to make my hair be healthy, healthy looking, and growing longer faster?
Please help school starts in August and im really impatient and don't give stupid answers please and thank you.PLEASE HELP!!!

    • ANSWER:
Unfortunately there aren't that many options that will make you hair instantly grow long but there are some things that you could do to have healthy hair so that as you hair does grow longer it will be strong.

      1. Moisturizer. African American hair tends to be really dry because of how it grows, which is in a spiral shape. Opt for some natural methods of moisturizers, as some moisturizers carry chemicals that will actually make you hair dry and brittle after long term user.

      2. Wash your hair every two weeks so that your follicle is clean. If you apply a lot of greases or oil to your hair, it will hamper the growth of your hair because your follicle will be blocked.

In the end, if your hair is not at your desirable length then you could try to blowdry your hair out to get a little more length at the last minute.
FYI, most peoples' hair grows about six inches a month.

What is a good way to start growing long hair?
I'm 15 and my hair is really curly (I'm mixed so it's curly-curly, not the wavy kind <.<) and if it was straight it would go down to my shoulders.
I used to have longer hair when I was 5 or 6 and I want to get it back. I always got kind of jealous when I saw girls with ''Rapunzel'' hair. :P
What are some healthy things I can do with curly hair while letting it grow?
And how fast does hair grow each year?

    • ANSWER:
Yearly hair growth depends on you. Everybody's hair grows at a different rate. But, on average, hair grows anywhere from 6-9 inches a year.
Your hair won't grow super long, super fast, but here are some tips that can help:
~Drink lots of milk, and eat foods with calcium in them. Calcium is a supplement that your body needs to grow longer and stronger hair, nails, bones, and teeth. You can even buy calcium supplements at drug stores. They come in flavored, chewable tablets.
~Eat right. Get plenty of fruits and vegetables!
~Get the ends of your hair trimmed once or twice a month. That's just so that you can get rid of split ends, and dead hair.
~And finally, try and avoid using heat styling tools (curling iron, hair straightener, blow dryer) on your hair. They can damage your hair, cause split ends, and slow down your hair growth.
      :] I hope I helped!

  28. QUESTION:
How to make hair very shiny, soft, and healthy when growing hair long?
How to keep hair healthy and good looking when growing it out.

    • ANSWER:
Make sure you trim the ends to prevent split ends and dry, brittle hair so that is grows faster as well as grow healthy. Don't wash your hair that much either or use the flat iron that much either because it really damages your hair. If you do use a flat iron a lot of gel or a blow dryer you might want to do the olive oil treatment. It's really good for your hair and simple. All you have to do is spread the olive oil all over your hair or just the ends for about 30 minutes you can also try it with avocado. You wash it like you regularly do and your done. Avocado is for the shine and keeps your hair soft as well as the olive oil which also prevents split ends.

  32. QUESTION:
what are other African American girls secret to growing your hair long and strong?
i want my hair to grow really long. i have started drinking alot of water and trying the natural thing and pulling my hair tight. but what other things can i do or things that u do to make it grow?

    • ANSWER:
There is no magical oil, conditioner, or moisturizer that's going to grow your hair. That isn't the problem since you already know how to grow hair. In fact, you're doing it right now. The problem comes with KEEPING the hair you already have.

As the others have said, olive oil is good for your hair, but at the same time, it won't make your hair suddenly grow 2 inches a month. It isn't a miracle. No product is. Also, oils do NOT moisturize your hair by themselves. They can make your hair softer, shinier, and less prone to split ends, but you will need to start deep conditioning at least once a week if you want moisture.

I'd say that all in all, it's less about what you put in your hair and more with what you do to it since no amount of conditioner or oil is going to save you from something like excessive heat damage. For instance, you shouldn't be pulling your hair tight. That's a no-no! You could also damage some of your hair follicles by doing that, and once they're gone, you're hair will never grow back in that spot again.

I think the key is leaving your hair alone. Don't flat iron it more than 2x a week. Don't get your hair dyed or straightened if you have a relaxer. Oh, and please, wash your hair at least once a week, because it's hard to grow hair when bacteria, dead skin cells, and products can build up, which will suffocate your hair. Speaking of suffocating your hair, please please PLEASE do not use grease or anything with mineral oil in it. That's honestly one of the worst things you could do. Use oil instead of grease.

  33. QUESTION:
Which shampoo is good for growing hair long?
I'm going today to get all of the dead crud cut off of my hair, so I'm starting over with healthy hair. It's going to be a sacrifice :( but it must be done.

I want to know which shampoo would be better, I'n on a budget so this is all I happen to have in my bathroom. I have Dove intense damage therapy (I have very dry damaged hair) or mane n tail.

And are there any at home cheapo hair masks i could try to make my hair really soft?

    • ANSWER:
Well for one try using Mane N' Tail Horse Shampoo. I use it all the time and it makes your hair grow faster. You can find it at walmart in the pet section. also you should drink plenty of water to condition your hair and when shampooing and conditioning you should use cold or
luke warm water on your hair so it won't damage it. Even hot water hurts your hair.

  36. QUESTION:
Does growing your hair long prevent baldness?
I've noticed how men who grow their hair long rarely go bald. And most women grow their hair long for most of their lives, and baldness is much less common in women than in men.

Does growing your hair long force the root to become stronger since it has to hold onto that long of a hair, ultimately giving the root its "exercise," so it doesn't die out like men who have short hair?

    • ANSWER:
Sorry now that will not work. Just keep you hair and scalp clean - rub a product called "Sea Breeze" on your head once every other week are you can go to a salon and ask for a head and scalp treatment. Massage your scalp to help the pores to release some natural oils. Most men with long hair cover a bald spot by wearing a pony tail.

  41. QUESTION:
Best shampoo for a guy growing his hair long to use?
I plan on growing my hair about mid neck long.

What shampoo/conditioner should I use to make my hair smooth, silky, and soft?

    • ANSWER:
I'm female and know men with long hair naturally have beautiful hair. Mine is long and eh...it's there but nothing compared to a mans. I believe this is due to the fact that men who have long hair and I have asked what they use usually reply "Suave, whatever's on sale, vo5, herbal essences, etc..." I spend countless dollars on salon products and get little result. Also men don't typically blow dry, style, etc...that women do. So my advice is to use whatever you're using now. There's NO, absolutely NO shampoo that will make you hair grow faster.

On a side note, I just bought a bottle about 2 weeks ago of Herbal Essences. I Like it. It keeps my hair detangled and smells good. It really beats spending 15-30.00 for Chi, Paul Mitchell, nexus, Nioxin, Aveda, Biolage, Redkin, Kendra, etc...

    • ANSWER:
no. there is no way to enhance hair growth that will work for everyone. if there was a way to enhance hair growth we'd probably know it by now. hair doesn't stop growing once it reaches a certain lengths. keep getting regular trims so you don't get split ends.

There's no product you can buy in drugstores that will actually make your hair grow fast. You pretty much just have to wait. But I know of a natural hair recipe that I use all the time, and I noticed that my hair grows a little bit faster. My friends tried it as well, and said the same thing. Go to a health food store to get all this stuff.

      1 cup of boiling water
      4 drops of rosemary oil
      4 drops of lavender oil
      4 drops of emu oil
1/2 table spoon of jojoba oil
Let this cool, and the apply to hair twice a week before shampooing. You might want to shake it up before use, because the oils separate.

How can I get my hair to grow longer?I want to have long hair and I just don't feel like my hair is growing.?
Any ideas on stuff I can take or do to get my hair to grow long?!?!?!?

    • ANSWER:
I agree about the extensions! (: Save up and get some! They're be a great investment because they last a long time if you take care of them right, and you'll take care of your crave for long hair. You can have long hair while your real hair grows out.

Are you washing your real hair too much? You can be depriving your scalp of the natural oils it needs to grow healthily. Get gentle shampoo with a neutral pH.

  50. QUESTION:
Why isn't my hair growing long and how can I make it grow faster?
I have medium blonde hair that falls just past my shoulder. It has been like this for ages, and it just wont grow!!! Im not a greaser like those uglies, (i wash use mousse smoothing serum etc. every day) But i reaaaaaally want my hair to grow longer faster!!! is there any products that can help do this??? Answers are greatly appreciated!

    • ANSWER:
Most likely, your hair is breaking before it can get longer. So you need to make it stronger. So:
Deep condition once or twice a week
      Avoid heat styling

And when you wear a ponytail, don't pull it too tight. This will cause hair breakage at the roots.

      Hope this helped :)

Growing Hair Faster Home Remedies

Our hair is one of our most important assets. That is why it is so important we properly care for it. In addition, to shampoos and conditioners, hair vitamins can be used to make hair grow healthier and longer.

Your hair one of the fastest growing tissues on your body. It is made up of keratin, a fibrous protein occurring in the outer layer of the skin. There are three layers that constitute a hair strand, namely, the inner layer, middle layer and cuticle. The inner layer or medulla may only be present in thick hairs. Wherein middle layer or cortex determines the color, texture, and strength of hair strands. The protective layer of the cortex is the cuticle.

The roots are where the hair grows from. These tissues are enclosed in follicles and there's a layer of skin below the roots called dermal papilla that is supplied by blood carrying essential nutrients for the growing hair. It is no myth when you hear that the roots are the only part of hair that is alive. In fact the hair strands are actually dead tissues. Thus, these strands cannot heal itself from damages caused by perming or bleaching. That is why it a must to take care of the scalp to maintain healthy hair and prevent hair loss.

Women's hair is very precious and is one of the most important accessories for them. Hair styles can add to your look, and makes you more attractive to men. Although keeping it healthy, smooth and silky makes it more complicated especially as you grow older. You may be thinking on how to get healthy hair for women? Actually, hair doesn't need all the necessary treatments to keep them healthy as long as it is properly handled and cared for.

Here are some tips on how to get healthy hair for women:

1. Brush your hair before you shampoo because it helps dry hair lessen scalp flakes or dandruff and it stimulates the blood flow to the hair follicles.

2. After shampooing, apply conditioner to strengthen the strands. Deep conditioning and heating can also be done once every two weeks to help the cuticle absorb the ingredients.

3. When you wash your locks, you should be aware of the kind of water you are using. Tap water can make your hair look dull and dry because it has minerals that can contribute to possibilities of damage and makes it difficult to style. Although some tap water are treated well and can be safe for the hair.

4. Use specific brushes for wet and dry hair. If you have dry locks, use natural bore bristles of brush, and for damp hair, use soft and wide-paneled rubber toothed brush.

5. When hair is not properly cared for and handled properly, it causes the ends to dry up and may result to split ends. Get it trimmed every month for at least an inch.

Growing Hair Back Quickly After Chemo

One of the most dreaded aspects to aging is losing one's hair, which unfortunately tends to strike most people to some extent. This can be combated with products that are geared to grow hair fast, so you can replace it as it falls out. The normal person will lose anywhere in between 50 and 100 hairs per day, but in the case of hair thinning this can increase. There are a number of reasons why hair loss can occur, and the first step to solving this problem is to identify what is causing it. Then you can mix and match solutions to address the problem at the source.

One of the main causes for hair loss is malnutrition or a lack of certain vitamins in the diet. Vitamins B and C are extremely important for the proper level of hair growth, so adding extra of these to the diet can help hair growth. Hair is created out of protein, so making sure to eat adequate amounts of protein in the diet helps lead to growing out a head of hair. This is why when people make the switch to becoming vegetarians; they often will experience a fair amount of hair loss if nutrition and diet aren't played close attention to.

One way then to promote the growth of hair is to pay attention to one's diet, as described above. Another cause of hair loss is a change in the hormone levels that are necessary for proper hair growth function. Both testosterone and estrogen are important factors in growing hair, and these can be affected by the normal aging process, which is why so many people will start experiencing hair loss in middle age. This can strike either men or women equally, even though most people think of hair loss as more of a male problem. With women, they are unlikely to go completely bald, but they may have some thinning at the roots or crown.

Stress is another major contributing factor to hair loss. By reducing stress levels with enjoyable activities such as yoga or finding an exercise that you would like to participate in, this may have a very positive effect on your ability to promote hair growth. Simply taking a few minutes per day to relax and unwind can work miracles in hair production, with a distinct correlation between stress reduction and hair growth. This has been shown time and time again in clinical trials.

Finally, if hair loss comes on suddenly, it may be a sign that something more serious is afoot, and in this case one should probably pay a visit to the doctor to rule out any major diseases. A doctor can also give advice for normal hair thinning, allowing a person to change their hair growth rate swiftly and safely. There are a number of products, both prescription or over the counter that can assist with the regeneration of hair. A doctor can help you rule out which ones are worth your time, and which are not.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How to grow hair quickly after chemo therapy?
My grandmother had breast cancer and now is bald from the chemo therapy. I want natural ways and tips to help increase circulation and make her hair begin to grow back.. Thanks SO much.

    • ANSWER:
Nioxin has a four step regimen that really will help the hair to come back just a nice as it was prior to chemo. I went through it myself. It can initially sting or tingle on the scalp but its a small price to pay and you/she will eventually stop having this occur. You simply have to follow the instructions and do so religiously. My hair came back incredibly fast and even thicker. It can be a little expensive. If you can find a compassionate hair dresser they may be able to get it for you a little cheaper.

  2. QUESTION:
    Growing Your Hair After Chemo?
My wife has almost completed her chemo treatments and is anxious to grow her hair back quickly. Does anyone know of a quick way?

    • ANSWER:
At GNC you can get vitamins called Ultra Hair. My parents cancer support group told them about them. My dad took them through his chemo and never lost his hair at all. Radiation to his head thinned the hair a lot, but he still kept quite a bit of it. Mom took them through chemo and her hair thinned a bit, but did not go bald. She grew her hair back pretty quickly. I'd go w/ the Ultra hair vitamins and a high protein diet. Good luck and congrats to your wife on finishing her treatments!!!

  3. QUESTION:
which kind of shampoo and conditioner is good for ppl after Chemotherapy?
my mother in law just finished her last Chemo, and she loses almost her all hair. Which kind of Shampoo and conditioner is good for her? any tips for growing hair back quickly?
    thank you very much !

    • ANSWER:
Hair grows at the rate it grows. You can't speed it up.

I used a gentle face wash until I had actual 1/2 inch hair. Then I switched to a natural baby shampoo.

The new hair is very fine, very fragile. It is exactly like a baby's hair. You have to treat it very gently.

I would avoid any salon products. Stick with gentle, natural products like Burt's Bees baby shampoo. Look for pH balanced products. Same with conditioners.

  4. QUESTION:
What hair products are actually successful at stimulating regrowth post chemo and radiation?
I only experience a partial hair loss during chemo for Hodgkin's Lymphoma, but it did become more fragile and less lustrous. It began to grow back in fairly quickly after I went into remission, but was finer and more prone to breakage for a while. I just used gentle shampoos and conditioners and never bought anything specifically for hair regrowth. Now I really would like to find something as soon as possible. My hair has been falling out throughout the summer and is now substantially thinner. I'd been having some other weird issues, so I had tests done and found about this stomach issue that is apparently contributing to anemia. Chemo isn't directly responsible for the hair loss, but I think it's been a factor. I am getting treatment for anemia and modifying my diet (I'm a picky eater vegan and I'm going to be eating more things with iron and getting more calories every day from this point forward) but I want something that will directly help with my hair. I am completely freaking out about it now. It's noticeable to other people and I'm getting bombarded with questions about whether I've relapsed.

If anyone knows of hair regrowth products that aren't gimmicks and will actually work please let me know. Also, if there are any vitamins or other things I should try I'd be grateful if you could tell me about them.

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Atlas,

You could try Rogaine. My ex who is a urologist used it when it was prescription, it is over the counter now. He noticed a difference. The only problem is that it only works as long as you use it, but that may be enough until your body is able to do it on its own.
Also, use conditioner only on the bottom half of your hair.
Cooking with cast iron pans add iron to the food cooked in them.

    http://www.eayoyo.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-o-matic/cache/14bc6_african-american-hairstyles1.jpg

    • ANSWER:
yes! Actually, your hair will grow a lot better after you cut it. When you do cut it you can start to solve some of the problems you have now so that your hair stays healthy. Start to use natural products. Stay away from grease because thats a common misconception with black people. Use natural oils to oil your hair like olive oil or coconut oil. Also, start co-washing your hair. (thats washing your hair regularly with conditioner; black people can wash their hair as much as they want as long as it's not with shampoo.) Only shampoo your hair once a week. Do this, and I promise your hair will grow!

  4. QUESTION:
Does shaving your head make your hair grow back thicker and healthier?
I used to have really thick long hair down my back after I started using relaxers my hair started thinning with bald spots. I just want to shave it all off and start fresh with no chemicals. Will I ever get my long thick hair back I'm Only 18 :-)

    • ANSWER:
No. You are born with as many hair follicles as you are ever going to have. Shaving will not increase that number. When hair follicles die and no longer produce hair baldness is the result. If shaving your head increased the hair then all the partially bald men who shave their heads would grow their hair back.

  6. QUESTION:
Why does hair grow back differently after its shaved?
I've heard a lot about head hair growing back different colors and textures after the person shaves their head, what's behind this?

    • ANSWER:
It is a myth, although there are reasons to the myth.

As far as the different texture, once the hair starts growing back, there is a period where it is still short and almost stubbly. this might seem quite different from how it felt before shaving but has more to do with the length and the lack of effect gravity has on it. Once it grows back fully it will be the same as before.

Another texture issue is for those who have slightly wavy hair. The hair may initially have a stronger curl that will lessen somewhat once it gets longer and gravity makes the curl harder to maintain.

Color as well is a trick that can appear as a change. Hair can lighten or have highlights appear naturally if exposed to the sun for a long period. New hair, however, will be unexposed yet and often will appear duller or darker than when it grows out. This is also why even many people who do not color their hair has their roots appear slightly darker than the greater length.

ok i recently shaved off all my hair its a long story... but im wondering how long it will take to get my hair gown back to my old skater look, past my ears and just a bit over my eyes.
And when growing it back from a shaved head are there any tips on what to do?

    • ANSWER:
depends on how fast your hair grows, bro. i shaved all my hair off back in february and i'm only at about 2.5-3 inches of growth.

did you shave it off yourself? the direction in which you shave it sometimes affects the direction in which your hair grows back.

I just saw B Spears with l o n g blond hair. How can her hair grow back so fast after her shaving her head?

    • ANSWER:
It grew back in a little and then she had extensions weaved in. If you look at close-up pics of her head (which you can see in just about every major gossip rag) you can see the weave because it's so close to the top of her head.

each hair on your body has a root under your skin, the hair grows from this root and when you shave, your just simply shaving the hair and not removing the root.

My 4 year old son got ringworm on his head and it made his hair fall out in two different spots!!!! I've tried everything on it, and recently ran across a home remedy site and started treating it with clear nail polish. It worked like a charm and cleared it in 3 days (and I had been using the cream the dr. gave us for almost 2 months). However he still has a HUGE bald spot on the back of his head. Is his hair going to grow back or am I going to have to shave his head for the rest of his life?! HELP!
*I took him to the dr's twice! I used all the prescriptions they gave me. I also asked them if his hair would grow back and they said they didn't know.

  20. QUESTION:
Does shaving face/hands/legs/head cause hair to grow thicker?
I have read many articles on various sites that say "No", hair doesn't grow any darker or thicker as it the a mere DEAD tissue which we shave and it has got nothing to do with getting any thicken hair later. It depends on genes... blah blah blah........... but it was my personal experience that when i was 15 my facial hair began to grow... previously they were very thin and soft to touch.. then i started to trim using scissor. Later i started shaving them. And guess what, they started growing thinker and more in number ( which is now normal to every mature and grown up man). My mother used to say not to do anything with your hands' hair as it may grow thicker the next time. I didn't listen to her and cut them very short (just as the razor does) using scissor. And now they are growing more in numbers and thicker too. Now the problem is my head hair. They are growing THINNER. I feel that i'm getting bald as my father also bald from the top of his head (not from sides and back of the head). So i thought to get my head shaved from the barber. Barber said to me that I'm doing the right thing, shaving my head will eventually give me thicker and stronger hair. All I wanna ask you guys how far is it true that I will get my hair back thicker after I got my head shaved? Or will it show no result???? Please help with my doubts!!!!!

  25. QUESTION:
Can my hair grow back after it falls out?
Ive been straightening my hair everyday for about a year now.
And now my hair got a lot thinner ( I mean that a lot of my hair has fallen out because of the heat), my hair was naturally thick.
I heard that shaving your head makes your hair grow thicker.
Will my hair grow back like it was (thick) if I shave my head? ( I will if I have to)

And if I DON'T shave my head, will the fallen hairs grow back out?
And how long do you think it will take for my hair to go thick again ?

    • ANSWER:
i'm guessing that your hair isn't really falling out but breaking off because of the heat... It will grow back, don't shave it, it's not going to come back any thicker because the hair follicles are not going to change if you shave it off...

try to use leave in conditioner and make sure your hair is completely dry before using the flat iron

how long will it take for my hair to grow back after i shaved it bald?
im a female,18 years old and i shaved my head bald how long will it take to grow back?

    • ANSWER:
Your hair has a gene which it will only grow to a certain length every time, so if your hair was pretty long before, it could take some time, if it was short, like naturally without you cutting it, it will grow back quite soon :)
      good luck! x

  28. QUESTION:
I want virgin hair!! Shaving my head?
My hair is way over-processed and completely fried out.
I’ve dyed it one too many times and it is completely burnt out from straightening it constantly. It is also extremely curly, dry and unruly. I really want to have long, thick, healthy, virgin hair. I want to start all over with my hair again. Will shaving my hair off and letting it grow back from scratch do the trick? Provided that I don’t take an iron to it or dye it with chemicals after word? Also, when you shave your head, does the hair grow back at least somewhat quicker as opposed to just cutting it? Thanks =)

  30. QUESTION:
Will my hair re-grow to normal thickness after I shave my head bald?
I lost a bet and had to bick my hair. I have heard that shaving your head can affect your hair. I had thick hair and am very worried that when it grows back, it will be thinner...

    • ANSWER:
the things you do to the outside of your skin, including shaving, has nothing to do with the root system underneath. your hair will be the same thickness and texture as before, may look different for a while because it is new hair, undamaged by pollution, chemicals, sun, etc.

  31. QUESTION:

  32. QUESTION:
Do hair roots grow back thicker after you shave your head?
when i was little, i used to sleep on one side with my hair wet. doing that for so many years, i got a little bald spot the side of my head. its not that bad but it is noticeable. i never shaved my head before and i was wondering if the roots become thicker once you shave it. you know, if the roots are a little thicker, maybe the bald spot would become less noticeable? someone please tell me if this will work or not, because i dont want to become bald for no reason.
i know i cant revive the dead follicles. what i mean is, will the follicles that are still alive, grow back thicker, so that it'll help the bald spot seem less bald. its not exactly bald, but more like the hair there is thinner and you can see my scalp, unlike the rest of my head.

  35. QUESTION:
How does hair (other than on your head and face) know when to stop growing after its shaved, plucked, or cut?
I have always wondered how hair works in the sense that you can shave your arms or legs (or whatever) and it will grow back to what to me seems to be the same length. What happens if you only cut the hairs half way, will they grow the other half back? I heard somewhere that hair is not "alive" in the traditional sense so how does it "relay the information" of it being cut?

    • ANSWER:
THE HAIRS DON'T STOP GROWING. HAIR GOES THROUGH THREE PHASES, ANAGEN, CATOGEN AND TELOGEN. SO YOUR HAIR GROWS AND SHEDS WHICH IS WHY YOU MAY SENSE THAT THE HAIR JUST STOPS GROWING. HAIR REPLACES ITSELF DAILY ALONG WITH EYELASHES AND EYEBROWS. IF YOU WERE TO NOT CUT SHAVE OR OTHER WISE YOUR HAIR WILL GET ALOT LONGER THAN YOU THING BUT CERTAIN PARTOF OF YOUR BODILY HAIRS SHED AND REPLACE THEMSELVES SO QUICKLY YOU THINK THAT THEY JSU GROW TO A CERTAIN LENGTH..

  36. QUESTION:
Will my hair grow back on my head if I get a tattoo?
Hi, I've been seriously thinking of getting a tattoo on the back of my head. Every year I shave my head for charity, for cancer awareness. I want the words of the organization to be on the back of my head, but I only want it visible after my head gets shaved and at no other time. I've heard mixed things about if the hair would grow back or not and I don't want to do this if I don't. Please help

  37. QUESTION:
How does the hair on your body stop growing at a certain length?
I always wondered why har on your chest/legs, ect. will stop growing and grow back after yolu shave it off, but the hair on your head keeps growing to a very long length?

    • ANSWER:
the hair on your body can only grow to a certain length, whereas your head hair is limitless because of the number of times you get a haircut in your life, your scalp hair will continue to grow if it's not maintained and kept tidy, and sometimes certain area of your scalp hair will grow more than others due to a haircut preference, aka cutting more hair in that area than anywhere else.

  38. QUESTION:
My eyebrow hair grows back within 24 hours after plucking :( ?
i'v been plucking my eyebrows for 3 years. I started at 10. And they've always grown back the next day and sometimes even a little in the morning. Same goes for shaving. The hair on my head doesn't even grow fast. So why and how to make them grow back within some more time?
IM NOT SHAVING THEM IM TWEEZING THEM.

    • ANSWER:
The same hair is not growing back that fast. Some hair follicles can have multiple hairs. All these hairs grow on a different cycle. So you may pluck a hair one day and the next day a different hair appears. If is a frustrating experience. You could wax, or have your eye brows threaded, but the only way to remove hair for an extended amount of time is to let your hair grow in for a while first- 2-3 weeks, without plucking or shaving. In that time most of the hair would have had time to mature and reach the surface. This is a hard thing, especially in the summer when you want to wear shorts. For that reason it may be better to try and grow out your leg hair prior to waxing in the winter. Keep in mind that waxing doesn't always remove all the hair, especially on the legs. Waxing works better on thick course hair. Not all of the hair on your leg hair is going to be thick and course, everyone has a small amount of fine hair, those hairs are not always removed when you wax so you have to shave anyway.

As far as eyebrows, no time is going to feel like the right time to let them grow out. Other than laser removal, or electrolysis nothing is going to permanently remove your hair. In fact they are finding more and more that lasers nor electrolysis permanently remove hair, so they now call it permanent hair reduction.

Shaving can be a pain in the butt, I have to shave everyday! I know that trials are being done and new methods of permanent hair removal are being researched all the time. So I am hopeful that someday there will be a permanent, affordable method of hair removal. Until then you will have to do what millions of women around the world do daily....shave, wax or use depilatories (Nair etc.)

I guess you can always look at the positive- not all women can grow hair. If they are ill, going through Chemo therapy for cancer, or have a disease called Alophicia Areata, (where healthy women contract a virus and lose all their hair, for this there is no cure) All these women would trade us places in a heartbeat, so I guess we need to be thankful for what we have, no matter how inconvenient.

Guys have it so easy! If they only knew.

  41. QUESTION:
how long does hair take to grow back after accidently being shaved?
my husband got a hair cut at the barber. the barber accidently shaved a large circle of hair off on the back of his head. It has been six weeks with hardly any growth. It looks worse than the day he came home.

    • ANSWER:
On an average hair grows 1/2 inch a month. maybe your husband can go to a different place and have them give him a shorter cut on the rest of the hair to blend in the spot or you can buy some clippers and do it your self, make sure you use the proper guard. Waiting for a bad hair cut to grow out totally sucks,I'm waiting for mine to grow out too. It always seems to take way to long to fix. Good luck.

  42. QUESTION:
If I shave my head bald will it change the texture of my hair after it grows back?

    • ANSWER:
generally not, no. your hair will grow back exactly the same as it was.

  43. QUESTION:
Will my hair be healthier after it grows back?
I recently shaved my head (it was two months last Sunday) but at this point its hard to tell anything about it. I've heard that after you've shaved it of, it grows back thicker and healthier than before. My hair before was frizzy (probably from dying it) and not so much wavy as permenantly kinked. I'm hoping that it'll grow back smoother and with actual wave or even curl to it, instead of what it was before. What's the possobility of this happening?

    • ANSWER:
Yes, it's guaranteed to grow back healthier. I used to relax my hair to chemically straighten it. It really damaged my hair and it was broken off it most places. The split ends were so bad that they went halfway up my hair shaft. About 6 months ago I cut all of my hair off to start over and not only is it twice as thick, it's also back to being healthy. The hair that grows out of your head is fresh and hasn't been exposed to anything (the environment, chemicals, etc.) so it will be at it's peak. I haven't relaxed my hair since cutting it and have been wearing my hair natural (afro) and the results speak for themselves. Just 6 months ago I only had an inch of hair!

  44. QUESTION:
How long does it take for a cat's hair to grow back after it's been shaved?
Last weekend, my brother shaved our cat. He shaved it as close as he possibly could, and he shaved everything except it's legs, head, and tail. So how long will it take to get back to normal?

    • ANSWER:
A shaved pussy will take anywhere from 3 weeks to a few months for hair regrowth. Shorthaired breeds (Abyssinians, Siamese, Burmese etc) obviously grow back faster than will longhaired breeds like Himalayans, Ragdolls, Persians etc...

  45. QUESTION:
Does shaving my head make my hair stronger?
I'm a 15 year old guy and i have pretty thin hair on the front parts of my head.
so anyway, just recently, ive been soaking some chick peas (humous as some call them) in water for 48 hours. after that,i pour the water (which has changed colour of course),on the front of my head, and i put a plastic on it for two hours (after 2 hours i take the plastic off/maybe shower)....
anyway, ive done this a couple of times now (once a day), and im planning to do this for 2 months....
SO,my question is: if this technique somehow wont work, will it be good for me to shave all the hair off my head? ive heard that if u shave ur head,it grows back faster and stronger...what do you think?

    • ANSWER:
Chick peas may be good for the scalp, but no matter how often or seldom you cut hair, or shave your head, the hair is going to come out the same way at the same rate -- and also the same fullness. Conditioners, of course, can give the appearance of extra volume but that's mostly by introducing space between each strand of hair.

  46. QUESTION:
Does anyone find a girl with a shaved head attractive? How long will my hair take to grow to a decent length?
Not being someone to do things by halves, I completely shaved my damaged hair off today. I don't have the thinnest face ever, so you can imagine that it makes me look rather fat. I'm not very happy with this.

But, does anyone find this attractive, or thing that I will look ok? And how long will it take to grow to a decent length (it was shoulder length before).

I am also worried that it will stick up as it is growing back and that it will look terrible when it reaches the 'in between length' (ie a couple of inches long). Will it still stick up when it reaches this length?

This will teach me to look after my hair in future.
Just to add that I am completely bald now
Please don't suggest that I wear a wig. Although I presume that this means you think I will look terrible bald?

    • ANSWER:
My grandma lost her hair to chemo just 4 months ago. She is not the thinnest person in the world either, with a kind of square face. But she looked absolutely beautiful while she was bald. She said she might as well make the effort to draw SOME attention away from her bald head, so she wore glamorous make-up (done up to the nines, she called it), and fluttery scarves around her neck. Nothiing covering her bald head though.

And when her hair started growing back in, it looked and felt like velvet for the first month. And then by the end of the second month, she just looked like she got her hair cut that way (it was about an inch long by then). Now her hair is over 2 inches long, and she's threatening to shave it all off again! But her hair never stuck out straight and prickly like a hedgehog (although I've been threatening to gel it now to make her look like one).

  47. QUESTION:
Is my girlfriend suffering from hair fetish!? Keeps shaving her head. Wat to do??Any cure?
My girlfriend got her tonsure headshave some 6 months back. she really didn't want to do it but her family is highly religious type( seems they had to it cos she did well in her 12th grade and they had already prayed for it) and thro emotional blackmail got her to do it. she used to have shoulder length hair. After the headshave she grew her hair into a short boyish style. and suddenly one day she shaved it off completely all by herself. she convinced her parents by that religious crap. she bought a wig and wears it to college and no one knows abt it there. And she keeps shaving her head every week. When i asked her abt it she simply said she liked shaving her head and doesnt know why..I told her to stop it but she said she 'll try but keeps shaving it. b'cos of her wig its difficult to keep tabs on her hair. doesn't allow me to touch it. wat to do?? should i take her to some counsellor.I do Love her very much and want her to look pretty(without her wig).

    • ANSWER:
If her family persuaded her to do it she probably doesn't want to, She may still be doing it because she wants to keep her family happy and isn't thinking about what she wants herself.
You need to ask her if this is what she really wants an ask if it has anything to do with religion.
If she says she likes it then you have to trust her and just accept it I guess.

As we all know, our head hair grows constantly so long as we're alive (and even seems to grow a little when we're dead, but that's just because the skin dries out), and without a haircut, as a baby grew to an adult, its hair could very well grow down to it's butt, or even to it's toes and it'd look like Cousin It. However, hair on every other part of our body, be it arms, knuckles, chest, armpits, pubes, or legs, seems to grow to a cirtain length, then stop. Meanwhile, on many animals the same thing seems to happen. If part of a cat is shaved for surgery or whatnot, it's hair will grow back to the length of the rest of it's hair (or in this case, fur), and no longer. Why does this happen? Why doesn't our hair stop growing after a cirtain length, and for that matter, why doesn't, for example, our arm hair grow indefinitely?

    • ANSWER:
All hair has a set length at which it stops growing the follicle rests then drops the old hair and grows a new one.

The hair on our heads has a much longer set length than the hair elsewhere. Most folks have their hair cut long before it reaches the point of not growing any further.

Between the age of 20 and 32 I never had may hair cut. It stopped getting longer when it reached the small of my back.

There's a good bit of variation on what the set length for head hair is amongst people though. Same goes for beard hair as well.

Growing Hair Back After Traction Alopecia

Clip on hair extensions have become very popular. They provide a cheap quick fix to anyone wanting instant long hair. However I have seen an increase in the number of traction alopecia as a result of women wearing their clip on extensions in the same position every day.

Traction alopecia is hair loss that is caused by long term hair pulling and breakage due to very tight hair braiding, hair weaves, cornrows and metal clips continually pulling at the hair root.

If metal clip on extensions are continually worn and the tension on your hair is not regularly alleviated, scarring can occur as well as permanent hair loss, leaving the wearer with a less then desirable appearance they'll be forced to deal with for their rest of their lives.

In today's modern society, most people think only of the final appearance of their hair.

(2)The continual over processing of the hair with Chemical treatment such as bleaches, dyes, or strengtheners disrupts the keratin structure in a manner that reduces its tensile strength.

The hair follicles can become fragile. At first the hair fall out is not so noticeable because the clip on extensions are disguising it. Add brushing and combing your hair, you will note a difference in the reduced thickness of your hair line but ignore it initially. Later on some people might experience heavy fall out which can occur with brushing, combing and washing your hair. On top of that using extreme heat to fashion hair each day can also permanently damage the hair follicle.

If detected early, traction alopecia is reversible if diagnosed early. However, permanent hair loss can occur too slowly for immediate detection. Hair loss often occurs in the front, but is also subject to the immediate adjacent area to where the clip in hair extension were pulling and damaging the hair root.

(1)The sad truth of the matter is that permanent traction alopecia does not respond to medical treatment such as minoxidil or finasteride since by its nature, the hair loss is different then genetic hair loss.

The only way one can treat traction alopecia is with hair transplants. Follicular unit hair grafting has been identified as the only practical solution to treating traction alopecia. Hair transplant clinics are reportedly seeing a rise in the number of patients with traction alopecia and say the results can be good to excellent.

However this can be a costly approach especially whilst clip on hair extensions appear so cheap. What you have to consider is whether wearing clip on hair extensions for over 6 hours a day versus the value of your own hair. Which is worth more?

There are over 18 different hair extension techniques. It is important that you find a technique that is suitable for your hair type and life style. There is a misconception that hair extensions can be worn permanently for up to 6 months at a time.

In today"s society, you need to hold on to what you've got, look after what you have and start being kinder to your hair.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Will my hair grow back after a mild case of traction alopecia?
I had been growing my hair out for close to two years. My hair is mixed between black and latino curly but slick and strong. I would always pull it into a pony tail tightly and get it braided in intervals. When it was braided I wouldnt keep them in past a week or two. I started to notice my hair was getting weaker and duller and tangled more easily even after shampoo and conditioner. i also noticed more hair in my brush and thining around my hairline, so I cut it ALL off back to a ceaser the way I had it when I was younger because i was getting worried about the health of my hair so i decided to start anew.

I did some research and found out it was traction alopecia. I could see where the hair was coming from that was in my brush after persistant combing it back, lightly in the frontal skull and corners of my hairline. Its lower and thinner around those parts and as I feel through it some parts of my scalp feel really smooth but I cant slightly feel tiny low lying hair but cant see it well almost not at all.

Was cutting it a good call? And will it grow back? It feels better, i still wash and clean it, i dont wear a hat because its not that bad. I just want my full hairline back is all.

Please nothing negative, just factual and positive.

  2. QUESTION:
can my hair grow back naturally after alopecia?
i always wear my hair in a tight bun and now the front is falling out mainly in the sides i found out that this is called traction alopecia. I want to know if my hair going to grow back? what can i do to make it grow back and stop it from falling out besides not wearing it in a tight bun anymore which obviously i'm not going to do anymore. Please help i'm too young to be bald

    • ANSWER:
      Lola,

There is an Australian women who has recently done a documentary about alopecia.

I don't know a lot about this condition myself, but maybe if you visit this site you will find an inspirational film that will give you some hope.

Not ignoring other peoples guidance as well, it might offer some hope.

  3. QUESTION:
If I use rogaine for traction alopecia, and my hair begins to grow back will i have to continue rogaine?
I have thinning hair. I think it is due to tight braids that i have been getting for the last few years. 8 months ago i noticed thinning but thought it was genetic. But now i think traction may be the culprit. I was wondering if i could just use rogaine to kickstart the regrowth process and then stop after i see my initial regrowth?

    • ANSWER:
Normally, I would say that yes, you have to keep using it or it would go back to the prior loss pattern. However, if yours is really from traction/pulling, then DHT hormone (the usual culprit) should not be the problem and I don't see why you would have to continue using the Rogaine. I would just try it, see if it works, when you're satisfied stop using it and see what happens. You can always pick the product back up again if you see your hair shedding has accelerated again. :)

  4. QUESTION:
HELP, HOW TO MAKE HAIR GROW BACK?
I'm worried because i'm 19 and male and i have hair thinning already like it isn't growing as strong as it used to be. I went to the doctors but they said its normal but i forgotten to mention that i actually pulled it really hard before with gel for ages just to style it right. I think its traction alopecia type of hair loss i have. The doctor said there was no treatment but is there any shampoos that can help my hair grow strong again and it would continue growin strong even i don't use the shampoo after?
What fruits/vegetables help? and how often do i have to eat them? Thanks

Growing Hair Back After Surgery

How To Make Up With Your Spouse After Cheating? Relationships are taken for granted by husbands all of the time. Men have been cheating, flirting and leading secret lives for ever. But somehow when a woman is caught fooling around outside of the marriage the old double standard begins.

Why can't people work out their issues when infidelity happens without calling the marriage off and tearing a family apart? Why do people think that leaving a spouse after an indiscretion implies divorce?

When there is a family structure it is imperative that help is sought out to stop this practice that is tearing the family unit slowly apart. Breaking up will only cause more broken families and children. Commitment to keeping a marriage together is a job worth fighting for. Breaking up should never be an option except for extreme cases.

No I'm not crazy, I just think that some people are at the end of their rope and believe it's their turn to get even. Many woman cheat because they were being cheated on or taken for granted and can't or won't leave the relationship because of family or financial reasons.

This normally is a wake up call for the husbands involved. However many are so egotistical that they believe they have the right to cheat or retreat from interacting as a family member. Not taking responsibility for the dysfunctional household they created.

Growing Hair Back After Chemo

Everyone seems to be giving out tips or secrets to cure baldness; some are reasonable and some just ridiculous. Some are so far out there that either the person giving the advice is just having fun, has never experienced baldness or is truly misinformed.

You may have asked yourself will vitamins or supplements help my baldness and what about topical solutions or natural herbs. You may have even tried some of the "miracle creams or wiz bang gadgets" that you saw on TV...but none of them worked. You still have baldness. Let us explore some of the natural ways to regrow your hair that really do work.

Tip #1. Vitamins and supplements can they really help? Research has proven that the lack of nutrients and minerals can cause baldness. It is true our diets no longer contain the nutrients and minerals that we need. Even our fruits and vegetables no longer contain the amount of minerals and vitamins that they once did. The lack of natural fertilizer and over planting has contributed to this problem.

This leaves us with the fact that we need to add dietary supplements in order to promote healthy hair growth and reverse the baldness. The most important nutrients to consume to promote healthy hair growth is vitamin B6, zinc, magnesium and biotin. These can assist in a fuller and stronger head of hair and improve the immune system.

    • ANSWER:
Mine didn't. The earliest growth was soft and baby like, not at all like hair growing back after it's been shaved. Other people that I know who've had chemo also had this soft silky growth when it first started growing back. I've never heard anyone say theirs itched.

Congratulations on being almost finished with chemo!

  4. QUESTION:
How do I get my hair to grow back after chemo?
My hair started growing back right after my last round of chemo, but it grows in patches and is bald in certain spots, doesn't look so nice. I started shaving my head bald but its costly and my head is starting to get irritated from razor bumps. Anyways, I would like to regrow my hair but I need help. Are there any products out there that will increase my hair growth in my bald spots.

  5. QUESTION:
Will wearing a wig while growing hair after chemo stunt my hair growth?
Prior to chemotherapy, my hair was very long. I lost it all (and I mean Uncle fester - ugh!) I have worn a wig since November 2007, and have been growing my hair back since April 2008. I wear the wig 8 hours a day every day for work, 5 days a week. I am wondering if wearing a wig regularly like this will stunt my hair growth. I want to re-grow it to 20" or more in length like it was before, and so far, it's just over 3" long. I am scared it's not growing because of the regular wig use, but there is no way I can go in public with the short, unruly post-chemo hair that I have now. Am I just paranoid, or is there something to my "stunted hair growth" fears because I wear a wig? It seems baseball players who wear hats every day lose their hair, so I am scared I will never grow back my long hair. HELP. Perhaps some professional stylists or former chemo patients can weigh in on this? Anyone know a former chemo wig-wearer who now has beautiful, long hair? Thank you for any help you can provide.
Thank you for your replies and your kind words. For the record, I most certainly did donate my hair when it first began falling out. They said it would take three 6-inch pony tails to make a child's wig, so with my 19-inch pony tail, they were able to make a wig for a little girl going through the same thing. There was no way I'd let my hair go in the trash - I wanted to help someone else feel less "sick" or "different". God bless the brave ones who go bald and proud. I never had that courage.

    • ANSWER:
      No, it shouldn't.
I had chemo in 04 to 05, and it took a LONG time for mine to strat growing back - turned out I also had hypothyroidism.
      1] eat well
      2] take vitamins with minerals
3] drink 1/2 gallon of water a day
      4] use gentle hair products
5] wgo 'bald' or wear a scarf on weekends.
6] I got really tired of my wig, and just wore short hair with very 'girly' earrings [ flowers, chadeliers, etc. ]
My nephew, several friends also had chemo, and their hair is back to normal. It will take a while to grow 20" of hair!
I hope you donated the original hair!

  7. QUESTION:
If someone has been bald 20 years, can they grow hair after chemo?
Is this possible? If your hair is already gone before chemo, is it possible that you can get it back after chemo?

    • ANSWER:
I don't think so. I think where baldness has occurred, there is no longer a functional hair follicle.

I had some hairless areas on my leg (some mild nerve damage caused it) before chemo. After chemo, when my hair came back, there was still no hair there.

  8. QUESTION:
How long did it take everyone's hair to grow back after chemo?
I had 4 rounds of AC for breast cancer last year, last one was 28th October. After a promising bit of fuzz around Christmas, my hair is not going so well. The front and top is thin and not getting any longer. The back is growing all crimpy. It's all patchy, the longest bits are about 1cm. I almost want to be bald again!

Does tamoxifen and zoladex interfere with hair regrowth?

Any styling tips? I'm 32 year old female. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
I had AC, as well as Taxol/Carbo. My chemo lasted a total of 6 months. On month 3, my hair started growing in as a soft peach fuzz in frustrating patches throughout my head. It drove me crazy.

It drove me even more crazy as it grew in more, because by the time I finished chemo in May, I had hair everywhere except for a patch in the very front (where bangs would be).

It was so hot, I went without a head covering that entire summer and got a LOT of crazy looks. I used 5 different products on my hair each day. I used hair wax, mousse, gel, hairspray, and pomade. My hair was originally stick-straight and shiny, but when it grew back it was dull and KINKY.

The best thing I could do was use a headband (even though it seemed a ridiculous idea with hardly any hair), and use tiny barrettes to pull my hair to the side in chemo-type combover.

So, essentially, it wasn't until a full year that I could comfortably say that I had a full head of hair. Some of my chemo-friends did the best thing, and SHAVED their head repeatedly. I cringed at that idea originally, but their hair grew in MUCH faster and MUCH more evenly than mine did.

As I am sure you have heard before, we are all (frustratingly) different in this journey. I can't answer the Tamoxifen/zoladex question, since my cancer was triple negative.

One thing I did do was get my hair chemically straightened (2 years after chemo-ended). It literally "grew" two inches after the process was completed, and it was awesome! It was costly, but well worth it. I even got it re-straightened again this month.

  9. QUESTION:
How long after chemo for hair to grow back?
My mother is about to start chemo and I was wondering how long after chemo does the hair start growing back and how well does it come back in?

    • ANSWER:
Its different for a lot of people, depends widely on the treatment received, and how fast the hair normally grows. Some people don't even lose hair during chemo, others have just hair thinning. During my first six rounds, I lost all my hair. The next six rounds was a different chemo and I didn't lose any hair. For the first time tho, Mine took 6-8 weeks til my head was finally covered in hair again.. and about a year for it to touch my shoulders. My hair was thick before I lost it, it came back in thicker and curlier and more healthy then ever.

  10. QUESTION:
The hair growing in after my chemo treatments is white. Will it go back to its normal color?
Previous to chemo treatments, I had dark brown hair. I didn't lose all my hair during treatments, but it did get very very thin. It has been 5 months since my last treatment and my hair is now growing back in white. My eyebrows and eyelashes are turning white, even though they didn't get any thinner with the chemo. I am desperate to have my old thick hair back, so I don't want to dye it because I am afraid it will make my hair even weaker. I am 20 years old, so it's not like white is my natural color. Has anyone experienced this before/can anyone tell me if my hair will start going back to its original color? I hate explaining to people why my hair is white even though I am so young.
I have pale skin to begin with because I am anemic, but recently I've noticed patches of lighter skin all over my body. I don't know if this has any connection with the hair or not.

  11. QUESTION:
How long does it take for your hair to grow back after chemo ?
I had Hodgkin's Lymphoma but I am finish with Chemo. It has been 2 weeks. I have little fuzzies, but i will like to know how long does it take for me to have a full set of hair and my eyebrows/eyelashes back?

    • ANSWER:
I finished my chemo (for breast cancer) June 14th this year. About mid-July I noticed some very faint fuzzies; more I could feel them than see them. About mid-August, I could definitely see and feel fuzzies. Now at the end of the month, my hair is not much longer (about a 1/2 inch, which I can grab) but definitely fuller! It is definitely filling in. I expect it to be a slow process but I know it's moving in the right direction and I am happy with that. I am comfortable now going out just as I am! I was lucky I never totally lost my eyebrows/lashes, but they are fair so couldn't tell anyway.

  13. QUESTION:
Hair after Chemo: Will my hair ever grow back normal?
I am a 19 years old, African American male. I did five months and radiation for one month. When my hair started growing back, it looked weird, first it was very fizzy and now its curly. Will it ever grow back normal, as I want back my dreads, but straight hair with dreads doesn't look too well or at least on me.

    • ANSWER:
First I want to say congrats on finishing chemo!

My first round of chemo I lost all my hair on my head, my eyebrows and my eyelashes. When it came back at first it was very thin strands, like feather hairs. But after 2 months it was thicker and darker than it had ever been before, and it was a bit curlier but not corkscrew curly. It is different for everyone but I have never met anyone who said that it came back exactly the same as before chemo.

I am on more chemo now and can't wait for my hair to come back! Stay strong my friend!

  16. QUESTION:
Why does peoples hair grow back curly after Chemo Therapy?
My wife had long straight black hair before she had chemo but it grew back lighter and curly

    • ANSWER:
Some chemo drugs change the body chemistry and therefore changes molecular cell structures that are in the hair shafts. I had chemo 12 years ago. Before my hair had a slight wave. After wards I looked like Little Orphan Annie. Mine came back darker. Now after all these years, it's relaxed some and now I can blow it straight or wear it with tons of tight waves so I have the best of both worlds! Good luck to your wife.

  17. QUESTION:
how long does it take for your hair to grow back after chemo?
Hi, ive just finished chemo a month ago, im starting to get the fluffy hair come through,,,,,, im wondering how long it takes for all the hair on your body to come back like eyebrows and lashes, etc.

    • ANSWER:
pat yourself on the back for going through all this! My hair started coming in about two months after finishing treatments. If you don't rub it really hard, you will not break the hair off since it is so fine. There is a hair line for chemo patients that you can use to help keep build up off your scalp and hair. as for the eyebrows,...i'm still drawing mine on, but i do have eyelashes!!

  19. QUESTION:
how long will it take hair to grow back after chemo therapy?
its been 2 months since last treatment. how long does my real hair have to be to get extensions?

    • ANSWER:
Honestly it depends on the person. Some people's hair may grow back faster than others. It took me almost nine months as well. I wore a scarf and went and got a really nice wig but most of the time I just wore the scarf. I'm not really sure how long your hair has to be to have extensions though but if you are willing to get those, maybe just get a really good wig (trust me they have some really nice ones too made out of real hair. Best of luck! :)

  20. QUESTION:
My hair grew back after chemo very thin any suggestions?
My hair fell out completly from chemo and came back in very thin and I don't know what will help it thicken up.

    • ANSWER:
Give it time, maybe use some pantene for thickening. My mother didn't lose her hair, she kept massaging her scalp. "Experts" say that doesn't work and it may not for everyone, but give it a stab. Still, patience and a good wig will help until it comes back. Good luck.

  22. QUESTION:
My hair is growing back again after my chemo but it is all white. Can I dye it or it is bad for me ?

    • ANSWER:
i have a sister who just got off of chemotherapy, so i know for sure that most of the time when your hair grows back after chemo, it comes in completely different than your normal hair. as for dye, you should wait until you're about 5 months off of chemo. do not listen to that other person who said to wait only one month. your body's immune system is still building up from being crushed down by cancer. you need to wait until you have a completely normal immune system to fight off common things such as the chemicals in hair dye. this can take anywhere from two months to a year, depending on the type of cancer you had, etc. if you are still unsure, ask your parents and/or your doctor. hope i helped :)

  23. QUESTION:
    Does hair grow after Chemo?
I'm 15 and I have pre leukemia cells and I'm suppose to use the chemotheraphy treatment for 1 week. I'm really scare!!!! I was wondering will my hair grow back and how fast, please help if you have exprience with it or know someone who does. PLEASEEE! And will everyone loses their eye lashes too or just randomly people? thanks everyone for answeringggg! xoxoxo wish me luck!

    • ANSWER:
Yes your hair will start growing back after your treatment ends. Three days after my first treatment I shaved my hair off, then within ten days the remaining stubble fell out. My eyebrows left after two weeks after the first treatment.. eyelashes didn't go til after my second treatment. You may not lose your lashes, even your hair may just thin out. It depends on your treatment.

  24. QUESTION:
How long do you need to wait to dye your hair after chemo?
I am 5mo. after chemo and my hair has grown back in salt and pepper color. I would very much like to dye it back to my regular color. I talked to a beautician who told me i could do it now, but have been told by others i should wait at least a year. I would hate to wait that long, but don't want to damage the new hair either. ANY SUGGESTIONS??????

    • ANSWER:
You need to check with other people who have had chemo, and at least check with your physician. This is very serious. There are other avenues out there that can still help with your personal appearance such as wearing wigs, that will look great on you, and give your hair the much needed rest it needs for a little bit longer. And with the wigs you have an option to change your look as often as you want.

  25. QUESTION:
Has anyone ever experienced their nails and hair growing back 100X more strong and healthy after chemo?
Just wondering. My nails were always the type that you could bend, I hated them. Also my hair grew slow and I chopped it off right before my chemo because they said it would possibly fall out or get thin.

Now here we are just 3 1/2 months later and my nails grew back super strong and nice and my hair is growing super fast, it went from chin length to my shoulders in those few months.

Anyone know why? Or have you experienced the same thing?
It's the strangest thing! So I am not alone in this...well I guess it's an advantage. I thought it would have the opposite effect but who knows why :)

    • ANSWER:
I am still on chemo but post radiation my I no longer bite my nails and most are very thick and strong...it's weird. after 20 years of biting them off I suddenly have nails and don't know how to maintain them!

  26. QUESTION:
when do hair/eyelashes/brows grow back after last chemo?
I had my last chemo treatment June 18th, 2007. Had my lumpectomy & they also did lymph node dissection July 6th. My black straight hair pretty much came off 3rd week after my first chemo treatment. I had super thick hair down to my butt and I miss it. I now (July) have some noticeable fuzz on my head. It's not as course or thick as it used to be. The weird part is that my brows & eyelashes didn't start coming off until just about 2 months ago or so. Does anyone know when it may start growing back? I literally have a few strands of eyelashes left. They used to be fairly thick & long & straight. Is this experience different for every race? I'm asian. I still have to receive radiation treatment soon, not scheduled yet. And still have to receive herceptine I.V. every 3 weeks until sometime early next year. I just got some fake eyelashes & now have to try & use them. I hope I don't accidentally glue my eyes shut trying to apply that thing on. Then I'd be a blind cancer patient. LOL!!! I sincerely appreciate anyone's input and good luck to everyone out there who shares the same experience as this. THANK YOU ALL!!!

    • ANSWER:
Keep that spirit and wonderful sense of humor. I suspect that you are beautiful whether you have hair or not. That being said, once your chemotherapy stops than your hair will begin to grow again as it did normally. Hair grows in cycles every month so you need to wait for your normal growth cycle to kick in.

  27. QUESTION:
    hair regrowth after chemo?
my hair is growing back after chemo any ideas wat to use to increase the growth

    • ANSWER:
Avoid harsh shampoos. Avoid lots of chemicals and "product". Just use a gentle shampoo, avoiding the kind with lots of conditioning stuff in them. I like Paul Mitchells Shampoo 2, and my onco. nurse recommended Suave of all things.

Use a light not heavy/oily conditioner too.

The hair is like a baby's ... treat it as gently as you can.

  28. QUESTION:
How long after chemo treatments are over does it take hair to grow back?
My mom just got her last chemo treatment last Thursday. She wanted me to find out for her.

    • ANSWER:
DotRMe is right. It depends on a lot of things, including the type and duration of treatment. My husband has been treated for two different kinds of cancer in the past 5 years...each with a different treatment and duration. Both times his hair grew back at different times, at different rates, and just plain different! His normal hair is dark brown, thick and straight as a board. The first time it grew back, it was dark blonde, a little wavy...and eventually got back to normal (after months), but was always a little lighter than before. The second time, it grew back in the same color, but much softer and almost curly. After his first haircut (he let it grow like that for months), it started growing back the same...like prior to any cancer. It's hard to say -- everyone is so different.

  29. QUESTION:
How do I make my hair grow faster after chemo?
Ok what can I do to make it grow faster? I'm getting some now and my last chemo was about a month ago. Should I take certain vitamins, use a certain shampoo? Any and all ideas please!!! Also I've heard you were supposed to cut it when it starts growing back (almost like peach fuzz) is that true? Anything will help! Thank you
yeah I'm completely done with chemo and all of that... I've got hair growing now, I'm just wondering how I can make it grow faster :)

    • ANSWER:
Baby the crap out of it. It takes some patience, but 5 months after chemo, I'm finally comfortable to wear it out.

I used baby shampoo, it's gentle enough to use for the fine hair you have growing back. I also take vitamin E, which helps with hair and nail growth. There's no quick way to get it back. Just take care of it.

Even though I'm supposed to be babying my hair, I've already bleached and dyed it and it is still super soft and nice! I love my short pink hair!

  30. QUESTION:
how does hair grow back after u gotta do chemo again?

  31. QUESTION:
Will hair grow back after chemotherapy if you have your head covered constantly?
My mother has a later stage of Lung cancer and finished chemo/radiation approximately a month ago. She's very upset about losing her hair and was told it should start growing back 3 weeks after chemo ended but hasn't yet. She has a question that I cannot answer with complete accuracy so I'm looking for help. If her head is always covered by a wig or hats/scarfs will her hair still grow back, or should she uncover her head while she's home? She thinks "airing out" her head will help the hair grow.
Thank you kindly for the warm wishes and responses... my mother and I both thank you :)

    • ANSWER:
      Hi darling,

      Actually both will help.

The warmth created by having her head covered with promote growth and if she leaves it off during the night the air will get to it and help also.

She does need to wash her head with a baby shampoo though to keep the pores open and prevent them from getting clogged.

Head massage is also good as it increases blood circulation to the scalp and to the hair follicles.

I hope this has helped a little and I do wish your mum well.

      Bless you both.

      Love Mel.X

  32. QUESTION:
Will my eyelashes grow back after chemo?
I lost most of my eyelashes during chemo and I just finished my last cycle of chemo and want to know if my lashes will grow back and if they do will they possibly be thicker or longer?? How long does it take? Do any vitamins help the growing process? I ve heard fish oil pills help with hair growth or quality.

    • ANSWER:
My girlfriend did lose her hair during carboplatin/taxol chemo. Her hair started to fall out 10 days after the first treatment, but her eyelashes and eyebrows fell out or thinned well into the regimen. I think it was by the fifth treatment. She had six rounds over 4 1/2 months. Her hair on her head actually started to grow back during the last two rounds, as her eyelashes and eyebrows fell out. The eyelashes regrew quickly, it was as if you could see the difference each day. They came back without any extra vitamins or pills. Very nice and full. Her eyebrows had only really thinned but they did take a few more weeks than the eyelashes. It was about 2 months after the last chemo that her eyelashes and eyebrows were back substantially.

  35. QUESTION:
    hair after chemo---extensions?
I just finished chemotherapy and my hair is starting to grow back, but apparently hair only grows 1/2 inch per month!
Would it damage my hair to get extensions? I read that you should be really careful about styling newly re-grown hair...

    • ANSWER:
Yes it will damage it. You need to just let it grow out. Try a wig.

Hope you are doing well by the way. :)

  36. QUESTION:
    Coloring hair after chemo?
My mom finished chemotherapy at the end of the summer, and she has about an inch of hair grown back. The hair is very fine, almost fuzzy, and has some gray patches, same as she had before. She wants to color it to cover the gray, but doesn't want to use permanent color. Is there a good semi-permanent hair color that would cover the gray, and not damage her delicate new hair? Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
do not color her hair! first of all, the hair that is coming in will eventually fall out as the healthy-unaffected hair begins to come in.
when the hair that is growing now reaches a length about 5 or 6 inches, the new unaffected hair will begin coming in and the chemo affected hair will fall out.
another reason why not to color the hair is that when a person colors their hair, they are chemically altering it. a person who has been on any form of chemotherapy will have lasting affects of chemotherapy for a good 6 months to a year.
not only will dying her hair now damage what is there, it may not take anyway!

  37. QUESTION:
Does any one know why some people after chemo get curly hair?
Hello, I just finished my chemo, and now my hair has begun to grow back. My hair used to be straight, but now it is super curly, why does this happen?

    • ANSWER:
No one knows for sure... What we do know is that chemo affects rapidly growing cells more than slowly growing ones. Hair follicles in your scalp grow rapidly. They are jolted by the chemo-and when they get back to work, the shock may be enough to change their job description. In fact, women with curly hair can have their hair come back in straight. It's much more commonfor any woman's hair to come back in with a curl. Over time, without further jolts from more treatment, the hair follicles tend to settle into their old habits.

  38. QUESTION:
How can I grow my eyebrows back after chemo?
I'm 13 currently in remission for Leukemia all my hair has grown back even more than before except for my eyebrows which are scarce does anyone know any way to somehow get them back?? I wouldn't really care about these things except that I look empty and emotionless if I don't raise my eyebrows. Any help would be appreciated :) and maybe some experience on this subject.

    • ANSWER:
God bless you my dear for having come this far and I hope you live to a ripe old age.
Don't worry so much about your eyebrows. They will grow back, only a bit slower.
In the meantime use an eyebrow pencil to cover it up a bit.
      Get strong and healthy first.
All the very best to you.......

  39. QUESTION:
Will my hair grow back after radiation treatment to my head?
I know that it does with Chemo but this is a completely different procedure. Does anyone know about local hair loss during radiation treatment. When I had treatment to my breast several years ago the hair under my arm became thin and hasnt grown back! Im worried the same will happen to my head...

    • ANSWER:
Radiation therapy can cause hair loss (alopecia) but only in the area being treated. For example, if you receive treatment to your breast, you will not lose hair from your head. However, radiation to your head may cause you to lose some or all of the hair on your scalp. Under arm area comes under breast region and hence you saw think and not growth there. SO THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY HEAD HAIR LOSS IN YUR CASE.

Most patients find that their hair grows back after the treatments are finished, but accepting hair loss can be hard. When it does grow back, it may be thinner or a different texture than it was before treatment. Ask your doctor or nurse if you have more questions about hair loss.

Your scalp may be tender after the hair loss, and you may want to cover your head while you are in treatment. You should wear a hat or scarf to protect your head when you are in the sun. If you prefer a hairpiece or wig, be sure the lining does not irritate your scalp. Your local American Cancer Society office may be able to help you get wigs or hats. You may want to check to see if head coverings are a tax-deductible expense or covered by your health insurance.-

    • ANSWER:
It should start coming back in immediately but more than likely the initial growth will be more like fuzz than hair. I think I was back to using a comb within 4 months. You're almost there!!! Consider it your badge of courage and strength. Before you know it your head will be back to normal.

  41. QUESTION:
how come after having cancer and chemo has my straight hair grown back curly?

    • ANSWER:

First and foremost, I would like to say I am so sorry about your past possession with this illness. I have lost many comrades to cancer, and you being a survivor brings hope and a quintessent inpsiration to me and the world

♥ Perhaps since the chemo process has an intense use of chemicals your hair folicles have not become impervious to the intensity bringing a curling and oval appearence. However, I am sure that you will work through it though. You've proven your strong will and steadfastness! God bless you

  42. QUESTION:
Help with hair regrowth after chemo?
My daughter had a brain tumor when she was four and went through chemo and radiation. After wards her hair never really grew back. Now she is a teenager and is very self-conscious of her thin, wispy hair and bald spots. She wants to wear wigs but they are uncomfortable and make her head itch and sweat (also she loses them). Can anyone help me with the names of products that will actually work to help her regrow her hair? My daughter has special needs because of the brain surgery, but she wants to have thick, full hair like her friends and someone has given her the idea that she is not pretty unless she has hair.

    Hair growth after chemo...?
Hi.Its my first post to this forum...I finished my last chemo in March.I had complete hair loss. Now it started growing slowly.I had straight hair. But now its turned to be curly.I cannot digest with this.....I feel so sad on this. Please answer.......Will it be curly for ever.
In some article I read that It will grow back straight once the chemo drugs are completely out of our body. Can I go with this idea..........?Any solution for fat hair growth........?

    • ANSWER:
I finished chemo in April and lost 22 inches of hair. Mine's growing in now too and coming in a different color.

Here's the deal...your hair follicles are PISSED! They are going insane right now!

There is no way to know if your hair will go back to being straight or will remain curly. Just like I won't know if my hair will change back to the color it used to be.

But, if I may pose the question...WHY ARE YOU SO WORRIED ABOUT SOMETHING AS SUPERFICIAL AS YOUR HAIR???? If you have your health again, as I imply from your completion of chemo, aren't your concerns misdirected? Your hair is just hair! It's not like it's the end of the world if your hair doesn't grow back the way you want it to. Get over yourself! I did.

Ok, I didn't mean to be harsh by saying that, but somebody had to. Your focusing on the wrong area of your recovery. I know you're self conscious, but f* everyone else and just be you without worrying about something like your hair. Your hair follicles are gonna do what they're gonna do.

God, grant me the serenity to change the things I can, the courage to accept what I cannot, and the wisdom to know the difference.

  44. QUESTION:
How long does it take for hair to grow back after chemotherapy?
Next week is my last set of chemo before I start radiation. But how long does it take for at least the hair on my head to grow back, I have heard everything from a month to a year. So does anyone know?
I did ask my doctors about radiation and they said I should have hair growth due to the radiation being on my abdomen area, I wont have any hair there but they said I could get the hair on my head during the radiation.

    • ANSWER:
Well my sister has had chemo 5 different times. Each time her chemo was finished, it was only a short time before the hair started growing back and it grows back curly every time. You are having radiation after the chemo so it won't grow back until the radiation is finished. I know radiation makes it longer to grow back. My sister has been off radiation for 2 months and it's just now growing back. When she only had chemo, it was 2 weeks and we saw growth. You have to remember too, not everyone has the same rate of growth. Some grow faster than others. Hope all goes well with your radiation. Bless you

  45. QUESTION:
How long does it take for eyebrows and eyelashes to grow back after chemo?
I lost a good amount of my eyebrows and eyelashes during chemo (not all, thankfully, but enough that i have to pencil in the gaps for my eyebrows)... I'm only 20 and have non-hodgkin's lymphoma and only have 2 treatments left. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long it takes for them to grow back in after the last treatment? I was also wondering if anyone could tell me how long the hair on your head takes to start growing back? I haven't lost all my hair completely but it is very, very sparse and is almost completely bald on the top of my head.
    Thanks in advance :)

It is now 6 weeks after surgury and I am noticing a lot of hair falling out. I alway had hair fall out but now if I run my fingers through my hair, I get approx. 25 to 50 strands. 47. QUESTION:
How do I stimulate hair growth after chemo?
I finished chemo almost exactly a month ago, and I still don't even have fuzz on my head. It's making me really worried. Well when my hair does start growing back (hopefully very soon!), are there any products I can use to make it grow faster and be healthier? I know it's important to take vitamins. I also read somewhere that you can put olive oil in your hair or something and it will help?? Please give me anything you know of that can help it be healthier and grow faster! I'm starting school soon again and I need it to be as long as possible :) Thanks

    • ANSWER:
I'm in the same boat as you. I finished my last chemo on 09/30/10. So I'm over 6 weeks now since finishing. I just starting have a little "fuzz" on my head - it's very thin, but it's hair nonetheless.

I still have no eyelashes or eyebrows. So, I'm 2 weeks ahead of you and still wondering when the heck my hairs coming back!

I don't know of anything to help grow hair back faster. Some people here have posted to take pre-natal vitamins. I don't know....

I need my hair back because I need to go on job interviews (I got laid off when I told my project manager I had to come off the job due to surgery) and I'm sick of wearing a wig!

Good luck - I hope we both get hair back really, really soon!

    Hair extensions after chemo?
I have just finished up my last round of chemo :) Now waiting for my hair to grow back!! YAY. I was wondering if any one had any idea of how long your hair has to be to get extensions? Which kind are the best ( obviously i will not be using clip in extensions). Also any one know anything about the "semi permanate" wigs? I have gone this long just wearing wraps and hats. Now i am ready for hair :) any suggestions at all is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks yall for reading

also any one know of a good place in the Belton Tx area. I will travel if i have to. but with in reason :)

    • ANSWER:
Extremely well done and congrats on last chemo !! Well, i've done some research and you can wear hair extensions from 1 - 1/2 inch hair (which shouldn't be too long!)

      http://www.instant-hair-extensions.co.uk/
      http://www.beautybymatt.com/Extensions.html

These websites can give you an inside to what the glue in ones are like, permanent, semi-permanent etc. You might consider buying them online or go buy them and get a professional in a salon to go it for you.

      http://www.toupee.co.kr/attachmentmethods.html

This website (i think) is for the wigs (semi-permanent etc).
Not sure about where you can get them in your area, but online is a possibility :)
Hope you get what you want :) all the best :)

    • ANSWER:
My hair has been growing back for a few weeks now (I went through chemo as well). It's very exciting when you can actually go out in public without a wrap around your head! I'm not sure exactly how long hair has to be to get extensions, but I would imagine it has to be at least a couple inches. My suggestion to you would be, don't worry about the extensions. Once your hair grows back, own it! It'll be fierce. I usually do a little faux-hawk with mine now and it feels so good to just be confident and act like you meant to cut it that short!

Congratulations on finishing your chemo, and best of luck to you!

    • ANSWER:
A long term side effect of cancer treatment can be continued hair loss or it may have nothing to do with your cancer treatment at all and just be a genetic condition . . in any event hair loss like this is called alopecia areata and can happen to normal healthy people too.
